Schoolgirl raped in own bedroom
Police are conducting an investigation after a stranger raped a young girl in her own bedroom.
The girl, who is believed to be under ten, was attacked in the bedroom of her home in Basildon, Essex, between Wednesday night and the early hours of Thursday morning.
The girls' mother and five other children were in the house at the time the attack took place.
The child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is reported to have informed her mother of the attack early on Thursday. Forensics experts are carrying out an investigation at the scene, in the hope of retrieving some of the attacker's DNA. Police have said that there was no obvious signs of forced entry at the home.
The girl has given a description of her attacker to police. He has been described as being black, aged between 18-20, with black afro-style hair and a skinny build. He was also described as having dirty teeth, with one distinctive clean tooth. The man was wearing a grey top, with darker writing on it and loose fitting, ripped jeans, with a chain hanging down one side.
Chief Inspector Graham Carey appealed for anyone with any information regarding the attack to come forward.
He described the attack as an "horrendous incident" and "every parent's nightmare".

Search on for attacker who raped teenage girl
Police are searching for a man who raped a 13-year-old girl in Greater Manchester. The teenager was attacked as she walked home from the Texaco garage on Bury Road, in Bamford, Rochdale. She spotted a man as she turned down Half Acre Road who shouted at her to stop. He then followed her and pushed her down an alley where he raped her.

Monorail Breaks Down At Alton Towers
A total of 80 people were left stuck for an hour after two monorail trains broke down at Alton Towers on Wednesday. The incident happened at around 5.25pm. Also on Wednesday, the theme park's Air rollercoaster was also temporarily stopped on Wednesday afternoon, with some people stranded upside down on the ride for 20 minutes.
