Entrepreneurship key for Student Awards

Students and graduates from across Northern Ireland and the Republic are being encouraged to develop their entrepreneurship qualities and enter Ireland's leading enterprise competition.

The Invest NI/Enterprise Ireland Student Awards 2004 was officially launched in Belfast this week with students from 30 colleges across the island able to compete for the £28,000 prize.

Speaking at the launch of the Awards, Professor Terri Scott, Managing Director of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise in Invest NI said: “A vibrant and sustainable economy depends on creating a strong spirit of enterprise, and one of the key tenets of the Accelerating Entrepreneurship Strategy is to embed an appreciation and awareness of entrepreneurship into the education system.

"The Student Awards 2004 is an important initiative that enables students not only to develop their entrepreneurial skills but also their business acumen."

Now in their 21st year, the Student Awards are the longest running student competition ever.

Over 10,000 students have participated in the Awards developing over 3,000 business projects aimed at the establishment of a manufacturing industry or internationally traded service.

The closing date for applications to the Awards is the 5th March, 2004. Winners will be announced at a special presentation ceremony the month afterwards.
