New Body To Review Cancelled Penalty Points

A new body is to be created to inspect fixed charge notice cancellations, amid ongoing controversy over charges cancelled by garda officers.

Minister for Justice and Equality, Francis Fitzgerald, announced that the Independent Oversight Authority will randomly investigate cancelled charges, to determine if they are qualified to be cancelled.

The authority will be chaired by former President of the Circuit Court, Judge Mathew Deery.

Ireland's Oldest Man Dies Aged 107

Ireland's oldest man has died aged 107.

Michael Lambert was born on 5 October, 1907, in Ballymoe. A farmer for most of his life, Mr Lambert later served on the Land Commission and Roscommon County Council.

He was married for 60 years, and had 10 children and 22 grandchildren.

Yellow Warning For Wind Issued

A status yellow warning has been issued for Wednesday and Thursday, with forecaster Met Éireann predicting bitterly cold and biting winds and at least 3cm of snow on low ground.

Gusts are expected to reach between 90 and 10 km/h on Wednesday, with coastal areas expected to be hit hardest.
