140 Jobs Lost In Bose Closure Announcement
The Bose Corporation has announced that it will close its Carrickmacross facility in Co Monaghan in April, with the loss of 140 jobs.
It is understood that employees at the plant were told of the closure and job losses at 16:00 on Thursday.
Sinn Féin's Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin described it as "devastating news".
"The announcement this afternoon that all 140 jobs would be lost at the BOSE plant in Carrickmacross is devastating news for the workforce, their families and for the town of Carrickmacross and the economy of South Monaghan," Deputy Ó Caoláin said.
"I have this evening written directly to the Minister for Enterprise, Jobs & Innovation Richard Bruton TD requesting his immediate contact with BOSE management to explore the prospect of having this decision reversed. I have urged Minister Bruton to have the IDA fully involved in every effort to save the plant and these crucial jobs."
Fine Gael's Seán Conlan added: "It is important now that alternative employment is found for those who have been left out of work due to today’s decision. I can confirm that the IDA is currently contacting their network of offices worldwide to try to find a suitable company to invest in the region and take on this highly skilled workforce. All the supports of the State will be made available to all of the workers affected by this situation."
