PO Robbers Sought

Police are probing a robbery at a post office in Booterstown in Dublin. Gardaí in Donnybrook are investigating the armed raid and are appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area in the last 24 hours to contact them at Donnybrook Garda station on 01 6669200. They said that men entered the post office in Trimleston at around 9am and held staff at knifepoint before escaping with around €15,000.

Euro Levels Out

Irish currency has fallen back slightly from its all-time record high of near 95 pence sterling reached earlier this morning. Currently, it is trading at 94.22 pence (at noon). The latest surge in the euro comes after more gloomy UK economic figures hit the pound and sparked off new speculation about further interest rate cuts in the UK in the coming months.

TDs Takes Festive Break

The Daíl will not be in session until 27 January after today's pre-Christmas session ends. The apparent five-week 'holiday' has been slammed by Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny who said it was perverse and outrageous that TDs would not return until the end of January. He said the country is in a national crisis.

The Opposition leader, Michael Martin has said secret discussion by EU leaders could see the exit Ireland from the Euro within weeks. In a statement on the ongoing eurozone crisis, Michael Martin said that the Euro is in a "critical state" and that proposals were being discussed "secretly" which could have a "dramatic and deeply damaging impact".
