New Accommodation For Fire Survivors But More Must Be Done - SF

Sinn Fein councillor for Sandyford Glencullen has welcomed the efficient arrival of new accommodation for fire survivors, but insisted more needs to be done.

Councillor Chris Curran said that since the Carrickmines Fire Disaster of October 2015, the council had acted quickly to provide temporary and permanent units on the Glenamuck Road for survivors of the tragedy, however he added that "it shouldn't have taken the deaths of ten people to bring (it) about".

Councillor Curran said that next year would see a review of traveller accommodation across the Dún Laoghaire Rathdown council area, and added that he intended to ensure that "the same level of proactive commitment" would be maintained.

He said: "There are still some areas of support where the state has yet to fulfil its commitment to the survivors of the tragedy. I am calling on the ministers for Social Protection and Children to adopt a more helpful approach to deal with the outstanding supports required by the survivors."
