HSE Encourages Flu Vaccine Uptake

The HSE has launched a campaign to encourage greater uptake of the flu vaccine this Autumn.

Flu is a highly infectious acute respiratory illness caused by the influenza virus. It affects people of all ages and causes death and hospitalisation every year.

The vaccine is particularly important for various high risk groups, including older people, pregnant woman and those with an underlying chronic illness.

An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar shared footage from his flu jab to raise awareness and remind others to book their appointment.

The public are advised that flu viruses change with time, so you must get the vaccine each year to remain protected.

SF Select Cllr Mark Ward For Dublin By-Election

Sinn Féin Councillor Mark Ward is set to contest the by-election in Dublin Mid West.

Cllr Ward was first co-opted onto South Dublin County Council in 2016 to replace Eoin Ó Broin TD, who formally notified him to contest the upcoming poll. In 2018, he was elected as Mayor of South Dublin, before being elected on the first count in the Palmerstown/Fonthill LEA in 2019.

"I look forward to the challenges that will arise and I will do what I have done my whole life and take them on with honesty and resilience," Cllr Ward said. "Since I was co-opted onto the Council in 2016 I have worked tirelessly for the people I represent.

"The status quo in this country needs to change. We need a change from the flip flop Governments of Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil, propped up by right-wing Independents.

"The people of Dublin Mid West have a chance to say enough is enough. We have had enough of poor quality transport. We have had enough of inadequate healthcare. We have had enough of rip off rents.

"Sinn Féin want to give the working people and families of Dublin Mid West a break."

New Athletics Track Boosts Facilities In Dublin

The County Dublin village of Lucan has become the new home to a state-of-the-art athletics track.

An athletics track rejuvenation project was delivered on the facility in Lucan as part of the Sports Capital Grant Programme funded by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and supported by Lucan Harriers Athletics Club.

Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Vicki Casserly visited the site last month to officially open the refurbished Lucan Athletic Track.

Speaking at the event Mayor Cllr Vicki Casserly said: "This opening ceremony marks the delivery of a significant project for the whole community, helping to promote better physical and mental health in line with South Dublin County Council's Corporate Plan.

"This athletics track rejuvenation project has been delivered as part of the Sports Capital Programme funded by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport; which aims to provide grants to assist in the development or refurbishment of sports facilities and the provision of sports equipment. It has also been part delivered by the monumental fund-raising efforts of the Lucan Harriers Athletics Club members."

South Dublin County Council is responsible for the delivery of the project and the continued maintenance of the facilities.

Hogan Announces 'Fix Your Street' Initiative

Residents Warned Over Council Imposters
A series of burglaries has prompted warnings to residents to be on the look out for an imposter con. Gardaí at Clondalkin are advising residents in the Clondalkin and Ballyfermot areas to be vigilant after a number of similar burglaries over the weekend.
