Irish Woman Dies In Car Crash In Australia

An Irish woman has passed away following a car crash in Australia.

It is understood the woman from County Mayo was in her 20's and had travelled there in recent weeks.

She sustained fatal injuries following a two-vehicle crash in the Melbourne area.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it is aware of the incident and is providing consular assistance to the family of the deceased.

Status Orange Wind Warning In Parts As Storm Erik Approaches

Met Éireann has issued a status orange wind warning for three counties- Donegal, Galway and Mayo- in addition to the yellow alert covering the rest of the country.

Storm Erik is anticipated to bring winds with average speeds of 80km/h, while some strong gusts may reach 130km/h.

Coastal areas will be the worst affected, with very high seas and some flooding also expected.

The warning is in place for Mayo and Galway for Friday morning, from 5am to 1pm, and for Donegal from 9am on Friday through to 6am on Saturday.

The status yellow warning remains in place for the rest of the country, with a severe risk of flooding on all exposed Atlantic coasts.

Drugs, Cash And Machetes Seized In North Dublin Searches

Gardaí have seized a haul of items including drugs, phones and machetes during a search operation in north Dublin.

Six properties were searched on Wednesday 06 February following recent investigations into criminality in that area, according to officers.

The operation targeted the sale and supply of drugs in the Corduff and wider Dublin area.

Over €20,000 in cash was seized, along with crack cocaine, cannabis, tablets and mobile phones.

Two imitation firearms were also discovered, as well as two motorbikes which are suspected to have been stolen.

A 19-year-old man was later arrested for drugs offences.

Weather Warning Issued For Ireland
Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange weather warning for the region. The wind warning was issued on Sunday night (8 March) and is expected to remain in place until at least midnight on Monday. The warning if for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo. The forecaster said: "Southerly winds of mean speed 60-65km/h.

A National Wind Energy Academy is being established at Letterkenny Institute of Technology as part of a €500,000 initiative being backed by the Donegal County Development Board. The first phase will see the development of a wind turbine maintenance programme which will be delivered in conjunction with BZEE, a German centre for renewable energy.

Two Arrested Following Drugs Seizure In Dublin
Two men have been arrested after cocaine and heroin with an estimated street value of €65,000 were seized in Dublin. A number of searches were carried out at private residences in the Dublin South Central area on Thursday morning, 07 April, as part of an ongoing investigation targeting organised criminal groups.

Man Arrested Over Methadone And Handgun Seizure
Methadone worth an estimated €3,000 has been seized along with a handgun from a house in the Abbotstown area of Finglas. A man in his 50s has been arrested in connection with the finds, which were made by garda from Finglas and members of Cabra drugs unit during a raid on Tuesday afternoon.

Woman Arrested Following Major Drug Seizure In Co Roscommon
A woman has been arrested in connection with a large scale drug seizure in Co Roscommon. During a search operation at a house in the Lanesborough area, drugs worth approximately €100,000 were seized. The seizure included around 40 cannabis plants worth around €32,000, cannabis herb worth around €75,000 and €300 worth of cocaine.
