Bomb Find Condemned

The people behind a pipe bomb made safe outside a house in west Belfast early today have been condemned by a local Sinn Féin representative.

Police said the device, described as viable, was discovered in Lenadoon Avenue late last night.

Army bomb disposal experts were sent in and the device was taken away for examination, with the security alert ending around 2.30am. Councillor Gerard O Neill said today that those responsible for leaving the bomb at a home in Lenadoon need to realise that the community does not want these type of attacks to occur and that they need to stop.

"While it is not yet known what group or individual may have been responsible for leaving this device, what is known is that they were left in a busy, built up area and had it detonated the injuries to local people could have been very serious.

"I am making it clear to those responsible that the community does not want this and those behind it need to stop.

"Whoever left this pipe bomb needs to consider their actions.

"In leaving this device they have shown no regard for the wider community," he commented.
