Youth jailed for life for nurse murder

A youth has been jailed for life for the murder of nurse Cheryl Moss, who was stabbed to death outside her hospital during a cigarette break.

Stuart Harling, 19, from Rainham in Essex, was found guilty of murdering Mrs Moss, 33, behind St George's Hospital in Hornchurch in Essex last April.

Mrs Moss was stabbed 72 times in the attack, which was described as "frenzied and ferocious".

The Old Bailey heard how Harling, who had denied murder on the grounds of diminished responsibility, was obsessed with serial killers and had extensively researched them on the internet.

Harling was not in court for the sentencing after refusing to attend court. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum sentence of 20 years in his absence.
