Police investigate bogus caller robbery

Police are investigating a robbery in the Hillsborough Drive area of east Belfast.

A male called at a house shortly after 5pm on Wednesday evening, claiming to be from the Housing Executive.

The man, who was not carrying identification, said a letter would have been previously sent to notify the homeowner of the visit.

He said he was there to take measurements for fitting safety equipment, and left after 20 minutes in the direction of the Castlereagh Road.

The occupant only discovered his drawers had been searched through and money had been stolen, when the robber left.

He is described as being around 5ft 6ins in height, of slim build and fair hair. He is believed to be aged in his mid to late 20s and spoke with an English accent.

He was also wearing a suit without a tie.

Detectives have appealed to anyone who may have any information on the incident to contact them on: 0845 600 8000 or alternatively on the confidential Crimestoppers number: 0800 555 111.
