Paris Hilton released from prison

US heiress Paris Hilton has been released from prison in Los Angeles after serving just half of her sentence for violating probation on a driving ban.

The 26-year-old socialite was sentenced to 45 days in prison on June 3, but was released after 23 days because of good behaviour and jail overcrowding.

However, she was briefly released after three days last month on medical grounds. She was tagged and placed under arrest, but she was then ordered to return to jail by a judge.

Hordes of reporters and photographers were waiting for Paris on her release from the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, and the heiress smiled and waved and shook hands with well-wishers, before greeting her mother Kathy and being driven away in the family's SUV.

Hilton is now due to appear on Larry King's talk show on CNN on Wednesday. She is reportedly not being paid for her appearance.
