Extradited man denies murder

A 43-year-old Chinese man who was extradited from Hong Kong in connection with the death of a Chinese woman has denied murder.

Wong Sui Ching appeared today at Belfast Magistrate’s Court charged with the murder of 29-year-old part-time waitress Ho Mi Ye.

She had been found strangled at her home in Isoline Street in east Belfast in June 1998.

A 39-year-old man had been acquitted of her murder seven years ago.

Mr Wong has been remanded in custody and proceedings were conducted through an interpreter.

A police spokesman said the extradition was a result of a “high level of co-operation” between the PSNI, Hong Kong Police and the Department of Justice during the investigation and subsequent extradition.
