NI suspects in paedophile ring investigation

Two people have been arrested in Northern Ireland and another in the Republic of Ireland in relation to a major global child paedophile ring, it has been revealed.

A UK-based website, run by Timothy Cox, 28 of Buxhall, Suffolk, allowed paedophiles to swap indecent images and videos of children being abused.

It is understood the internet chatroom was called ‘Kids the Light of Our Lives’.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said the files of two individuals had been given to the Public Prosecution Service (PPS). One person was remanded in custody.

They also revealed that action was taken at the time the information was received and the arrests were made some time ago.

Around 700 suspects from 35 countries in the investigation were examined, with 200 alone in the UK. 31 children were saved as a result.

More than 75,000 indecent and explicit images were found on Cox’s computer and there was evidence of more than 11,000 images to other users of the site.

He pleaded guilty to possessing and distributing indecent images of children at an earlier hearing and was handed an indeterminate sentence.
