'Week of Cycling' for Belfast

Belfast’s City Hall is set to present a marathon with a difference as part of the annual ‘Week of Cycling’.

A special ‘City Hall Spin’ will see up to 50 people taking part in a three-hour long cycling marathon on Monday evening – at the ‘City Hall Spin’ – without moving a single metre.

The spin cycling marathon is led by two of Belfast’s top coaches, and will allow participants to improve their fitness, test their endurance and raise money for charity into the bargain.

Entry into the event which takes place on the front lawn of City Hall between 6pm and 9pm on Monday 18 June, costs £5, with all proceeds going to the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.

Participants who don’t feel up to completing the full three hours can take part in a shorter 90-minute session.

The marathon is just one of a wide range of activities being held during Belfast’s annual Week of Cycling, which runs between Saturday 16 and Sunday 24 June.

With events for all ages, Lord Mayor, Councillor Jim Rodgers encouraged people to get involved, get fit and enjoy themselves while doing so.

“Exercise is about having fun, being socially interactive and enjoying yourself. It is good for you physically and mentally and has obvious health benefits.

“Most of us learn to cycle as children, but often, as we get older, we abandon it in favour of more sedentary means of getting around,

“The wide range of events we have organised during the Week of Cycling will offer us all the chance to jump back on our bikes and to remember the fun we had when we were younger,” the Lord Mayor said.
