British woman killed in Italian train crash

A British woman is believed to be one of three people killed in a train crash on the Italian island of Sardinia, it has been reported.

According to reports, 27-year-old Elizabeth Beever, who is originally from the Oxford area, and two Italians - Cosimo Serra, 45, the driver of the train and Bachisio Arca, 53, a commuter - were killed when two trains collided in the central province of Nuoro.

Seven people have been injured in the crash, which is believed to have occurred shortly after 7:30am local time.

It is understood that one person is in a critical condition.

Ms Beever is understood to have been travelling with a 48-year-old Canadian man who was taken to hospital suffering from minor injuries.

Infamous train robber, Ronnie Biggs, could be freed from jail in a year, his lawyer has said. Biggs, 78, was sentenced to 30 years for the 1963 robbery, but escaped Wandsworth prison by scaling a rope ladder, after 15 months.

Woman And Child Killed In London Train Crash
A woman and child have been killed in south London, after being hit by a train. Details are still being established but British Transport Police said the crash happened at around 08:30 this morning at Riddlesdown station. The London Ambulance Service was called but the two were confirmed dead at the scene.

Dozens killed as Japanese train derailed
At least 50 people have been reported killed and over 300 more injured when a commuter train derailed and crashed into an apartment block in Japan. The accident, the worst train disaster to occur in Japan in over 40 years, happened around 09:20am local time in Amagasaki, near the city of Osaka.
