One person rescued from collapsed London building

Fire crews have rescued a man who was trapped in the rubble of a collapsed building in central London.

The man, believed to be a builder from Romania, was trapped when the five-storey Queen's Gate Building in Dean Farrar Street in Westminster partially collapsed around 4pm on Tuesday.

The building, which housed the campaign offices of Labour deputy leadership contender Hazel Blears, was undergoing renovations on the top two floors when the incident occurred.

The man was finally removed from the building around 1:30am on Wednesday morning. He is now being treated at the Royal London Hospital.

One other person was injured in the incident and they were treated for minor injuries in hospital.

It is understood that all of Ms Blears' staff were safely evacuated from the building.

The cause of the collapse is not yet known. Police have said that it may have been caused be structural failure and stressed that there was no evidence to suggest that there had been an explosion.

Eyewitnesses had reported hearing a loud band or blast as the building collapsed.

'Loud blast' heard in London building collapse

Three Die In Bradford Crash
Three people have died after a car crashed into a hairdressers' studio in Bradford. Police have said that a black Mitsubishi Evo crashed into the stone building near the junction of Thornton Road and Kipping Lane just after 11pm on Monday.
