Police shoot woman dead in Sevenoaks

A woman has been shot dead in the centre of Sevenoaks by police.

A 37-year-old woman was seen in the the centre of the town. Armed officers later shot the woman who was given first aid, but was pronunced dead.

Part of the town centre close to the bus station was sealed off following the incident which occurred in the early hours of Monday morning.

It is understood that a weapon was found at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Independent Police Complaints Commission confirmed that a fatal shooting had occurred and that the matter had been referred to the IPCC who had a team of investigators at the scene.

Reports from the scene indicate that police have cordoned off the area and are taking statements.

Police Shoot Man Following Stabbing Incident In Hersden
A man has been shot by police after being called to attend an incident in Hersden where a woman was stabbed. Police initially attended the scene at around 11.20pm on Sunday followed by firearms officers and police negotiators. The man and woman, who are members of the same family, are both in a critical condition in hospital.

Trial Hears Polish Woman Was Killed In Shoot-Out
A court has heard that a young woman was shot dead as she walked home from work in a shoot-out between two youths. Magda Pniewska, 26, of Polish origin died from a bullet wound to her head close to her home in New Cross, south London in October last year. Two male seventeen-year-old youths were arrested but only one was charged.

Church Asked To Support Fast-Track Women Bishops Law
The first woman bishop in the Church of England could be appointed by Christmas. The general synod supports the legislation to fast-track the revision of the latest proposals and to reduce the time given to individual dioceses. This could lead to a final vote in July with the legislation approved by November.

Disabled Woman Found Dead In Car
A disabled woman found stabbed to death in her car near her home in Harlow, Essex, has been named. Jennifer Macaree was discovered in Hadley Grange on the outskirts of Harlow early on Saturday. Essex Police confirmed she was in the driver's seat of her black Vauxhall Corsa in a parking area near her flat shortly after 3am.

Baby Death Mother Named
The British woman charged with causing the death of her newborn baby in a hotel room in Crete has been named. Leah Andrew, from London, has been charged with infantide after being arrested in Malia on Tuesday. Ms Andrew was rushed to hospital by local residents after giving birth alone in her room.
