Woman bailed over collection con

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of making bogus collections in Staffordshire for the family of missing British girl Madeleine McCann.

The 33-year-old woman from Chadsmoor in Cannock had been making door-to-door collections in the Johnson Road area of the town, Staffordshire Police said.

She was released on bail until June 30.

Inspector Mat Derrick, Commander of Cannock Neighbourhood Policing Unit (NPU) said: "We are not aware of any legitimate door to door collections in the area for this fund and would urge anyone who has given money to this woman at the door to contact us immediately.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact PC Andrew Cotterill on: 08453 302010 or Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.

Madeleine's parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, are due to appear on BBC One's 'Crimewatch' show tonight to appeal for her return. The show will be broadcast at 9pm tonight.
