Murder charge mum found hanged in cell

A woman accused of murdering her son has been found hanged in her prison cell.

Helen Cole, 48, was found dead at Styal prison in Wilmslow in Cheshire on Sunday morning.

Staff were unable to resuscitate her.

Mrs Cole was charged with the murder of her 19-year-old son Andrew on Thursday and she was remanded in custody following a court appearance on Friday.

The body of Andrew Cole was found in the home he shared with his mother in Belvedere Road in Thornton, Lancashire in the early hours of last Tuesday morning.

A post-mortem revealed that he died of a stab wound.

A spokesperson for the Prison Service, said: "Our sympathies are with the family of Mrs Cole at this time.

"As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation."

Police have said that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with Mr Cole's death.

Man On Trial For Murder Found Dead In Prison Cell
A man on trial for killing a guest house woman has committed suicide in prison. John Heald, 53, was waiting for the jury to reach a verdict at Hull Crown Court, for the murder of Bei Carter and the rape of another woman. He was accused of deliberately stabbing Mrs Carter, 49, at the Moryland Hotel on 18 July last year.

Murder Accused Found Dead In Jail
A man accused of a double murder has been found dead in his cell by West Midlands Police. Rimvydas Liorancas, 37, was found dead on Saturday, January 28 at Woodhill Prison in Thames Valley. He was found hanging in his cell early in the morning before staff attempted to resuscitate him.

Woman And Children Found Dead In Stoke-on Trent
An investigation is underway following the discovery of the bodies of a woman and two children at a house in Stoke-on-Trent. Police say they made the discovery after being called to an address in Sherwin Road at about 18:35 on Sunday. A woman and two children were pronounced dead at the scene. No details of the victims have yet been released.

Cole, Mourinho and Chelsea all fined in ‘tapping up’ probe
Ashley Cole, Jose Mourinho and Chelsea football club have all been reprimanded by the Premier League for their role in the ‘tapping up’ saga. Chelsea were found guilty on Wednesday of 'tapping-up' Arsenal defender Cole and were handed a suspended three-point deduction as well as a £300,000 fine.

Prison officers suspended over corruption claims
Fourteen prison officers have been suspended from HMP Pentonville following allegations of corruption. A spokesperson for the Prison Service confirmed that the prison officers had been suspended over allegations which concerned trafficking and "inappropriate relations" with prisoners.
