Baby scalded by burst pipe dies
A ten-month-old baby girl who was scalded by boiling water from a burst pipe has died in hospital.
Rhianna Hardy suffered 85% burns when boiling water poured into her cot at her family's council home in Taunton, Somerset.
The accident happened on the first night that Rhianna's parents, Charlie Haworth and Matthew Hardie, 21, had moved into the semi-detached council house with Rhianna and her two-year-old sister Emily.
The couple had heard a loud bang from the children's bedroom and discovered boiling water pouring into Rhianna's cot.
Mr Hardie suffered burns to his hands and arms as he pulled the baby from the cot. Emily, who was also in the room at the time, was uninjured.
Rhianna was being treated at Bristol Children's Hospital after being transferred there due to the severity of her injuries.
A spokesperson for the hospital said that Rhianna's death was "terrible news".
The Health and Safety Executive and Taunton Deane Council have launched an investigation into the accident.
Avon and Somerset Police said that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Rhianna's death.

The 'green light' has been given for 15 new NHS hospital developments in a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) deal worth more than £4 billion, it has been announced today. Today's announcement will bring investment in new NHS hospitals to more than £16 billion since 1997, the health department said.

Community Hospital Site Deliberately Fire Damaged
A derelict community hospital site in Somerset has been damaged by a fire. A spokesperson for the fire service said the cause was deliberate. Fire crews from the former Butleigh Hospital, near Street, attended the scene from 1am. The hospital was closed in 2005 and has been unused since.

Enfield Council has lost its attempt at a judicial review of the decision to close a hospital's maternity and A&E departments. The north London council had argued that the closures at Chase Farm Hospital were unlawful, however a judge ruled that the council had "no arguable case for judicial review".

Scalded Baby Death 'Avoidable'
The inquest into the tragic, lingering, death of a baby killed by scalding water from a faulty council boiler has ruled that the death was avoidable. The infant received 95% burns when scalding water cascaded down on her cot when a water tank burst.
