Two arrested during Belfast hostage incident
Police believe they have foiled an attempt by criminals to steal a substantial amount of valuables in the Greater Belfast area.
As a result of the proactive police operation, a male jeweller who had been taken hostage was released unharmed by police. Two men were arrested.
The initial alert was raised from a home in the Greater Belfast area at around 5pm yesterday evening.
After a co-ordinated police response which lasted an hour and a half, and included the support of the police helicopter, the two men were arrested as they attempted to make their escape in a vehicle.
The businessman was released from the vehicle and a substantial quantity of goods and a firearm were recovered.
Police are currently examining the house and a business in the Belfast area.
The two men arrested are assisting police with their enquiries.

Two Men Arrested On Suspicion Of Kidnapping
Police have arrested two men on suspicion of kidnapping. The males, aged 33 and 31, were detained in Co L'Derry. It is believed there arrests are in connection with an incident in the city on Thursday, 26 October. No further details have been released.

Man Charged In Possession Of Heroin
A man is to appear in court charged in possession of heroin. Police arrested five people during searches of a property in Newry on Wednesday, 16 January. Two men have also been charged in possession of a Class A drug. A 50-year-old woman has also been charged with permitting premises to be used for the supply of a Class A drug.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Micheal McGibbon Murder: Man And Woman Arrested
Two people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Michael McGibbon in north Belfast. Mr McGibbon, 33, was shot a number of times in an alleyway in the Ardoyne area on Friday, 15 April. He was taken to hospital to be treated, however he died from his injuries.

Six Arrested In Dissident Investigation
Six people have been arrested by detectives investigating dissident republican activity. The arrests were made on Tuesday in the Dunmurry and west Belfast area following a number of searches. Police said five men, aged between 31 and 58, and a 32-year-old woman had been arrested.
