Strangford Lough search called off

The search for a body in Strangford Lough has been called off.

The search began shortly after 9.30pm when Belfast Coastguard received a call from a RNLI volunteer reporting that he had found a torch on rocks at Kilclief Castle, Strangford Lough, Portaferry.

The man reported that he had seen a light shining earlier in the location where the torch was found.

Belfast Coastguard called out Portaferry and Whiterock Coastguard rescue teams and requested the launch of Portaferry RNLI inshore lifeboat.

The PSNI also sent units and deployed their helicopter in the search for someone who may be in the sea, however no one was found.

Earlier this morning, Coastguard announced that searches at first light had found nothing and that as no one had been reported missing, the search had been suspended.
