Farmers convicted in separate sheep irregularities
Two farmers have been convicted in court on separate offences under the Sheep Annual Premium Regulations (SAPS).
SAPS is an EC based subsidy scheme payable annually on eligible ewes. In order to claim the Premium a person must own or lease sheep for which they are claiming and must retain the animals on locations notified to the department for a period of 100 days (known as the retention period).
In the first case, Bryan Duffy from Lurgandarragh in Enniskillen pleaded guilty to one offence under the Regulations and one offence under the Animals (Records) Order (Northern Ireland) 1997.
He was fined £100 and £200 respectively plus £49 costs following his appearance at Enniskillen Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
On Monday, Kieran McParland from Carrickgallogly Road in Armagh, was convicted of two offences under the Regulations.
He was fined £1,500 for each offence, plus £61 costs at Armagh Magistrates’ Court.

Four Charged In Connection With Blake Newland Murder
Four people are due to appear before Ballymena Magistrates' Court charged in connection with the murder of 17-year-old Blake Newland. The Limavady teenager died after being found with serious stab wounds at a house in the town on Friday, 02 February. Detectives investigating the murder, have now charged two men, aged 27 and 29, with murder.

The PSNI have welcomed a two-year Stalking Protection Order (SPO) handed down to a 46-year-old Belfast man at Belfast Magistrates Court. The man had been found guilty of stalking and harassing his 50-year-old female ex-partner.

HMRC Announce Automatic Child Benefit Increase
Millions of families who claim Child Benefit will automatically receive increased payments from 6 April 2024, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has confirmed. Families with one child will now receive up to £1,331 a year – an annual increase of £83.20, and up to £881 a year per additional child – an annual increase of £54.60.
