Council vehicles damaged in fire
An arson attack is one line of investigation being taken by police after a garage housing council vehicles was damaged early this morning.
Fire crews were called to the Derry City Council depot on Pennyburn Industrial Estate at about 1am were they found seven road cleansing vehicles and other motorised machinery on fire.
Such was the extent of the blaze that fire crews feared the roof would collapse however that failed to materialise.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
Elsewhere in the city, scorch damage was caused to the upstairs bedroom of a house in Northland Road.
Police were informed of the incident at around 8:50am on Sunday and attended the scene. No one was inside at the time.
Anyone who was in the Northland Road area from around 8am onwards and observed suspicious activity or has any information about the incident is urged to contact detectives at Strand Road on 028 7136 7337 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
