Post vans damaged in petrol bomb attack

Two post vans have been damaged in a petrol bomb attack in Londonderry overnight.

The incidents occurred at a depot in Little James Street shortly after 8.30pm on Sunday when up to four devices were thrown over a wall.

Police said they had yet to establish a motive for the attack and have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Elsewhere, police and firefighters have come under attack in Co Antrim.

Emergency crews apparently lured into the area by a hoax fire call, were faced with a gang of up to 50 people gathered in the Dunclug area of Ballymena. Subsequently between 11pm on Sunday and 3am on Monday police officers were attacked and there were a number of attempts to set vehicles alight in the area.

No-one was arrested and there were no reports of injuries during the disturbances.
