UVF linked to early morning fatal shooting
The Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) is thought to have been behind Monday's morning's fatal shooting of a man in south Belfast.
The victim, named locally as Michael Green, 42, from Ballysillan in north Belfast, was shot several times as he got off his motorbike outside his palce of work in the Sandy Row area of the city at around 8am.
The emergency services arrived within minutes but he died at the scene.
UUP MLA for the area Michael McGimpsey described the killing as “barbaric and abhorrent”.
“There is speculation that this shooting could be linked to the on-going Loyalist feud,” Mr McGimpsey said. “This is the last thing Sandy Row needs. The local community has been profoundly shocked at what has happened.
“I would appeal for calm in the area and would ask anyone with any information to help the police with their enquiries.”
Sandy Row was closed from Hope Street to the junction of the Donegall Road as police and forensic scientists investigate the scene of the shooting. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
A car found in Roden Street, which was also later cordoned off by police, is being examined by forensic experts, though no link with the murder had been made on Monday afternoon.

Armed Men Rob Shop In Sandy Row Area
Police have launched an investigation following an armed robbery at a shop in the Sandy Row area in Belfast on Saturday. Two men, armed with knives, entered the premises at around 6.45pm. One man stole a quantity of cigarettes and money from the till, while the other man stood at the door.
