Loyalists behind Lurgan shooting

A man has been shot in Co Armagh on Friday in what is being connected to a possible escalation of an ongoing loyalist feud in Belfast.

The victim was shot in the stomach and legs in playing fields at Glenavon Lane, Lurgan at about 2.30pm on Friday afternoon.

He was taken to hospital where his injuries which are described as "serious" are not thought to be life threatening.

The latest feud between the Ulster Volunteer Force and Loyalist Volunteer Force in Belfast has so far left three dead. The bitter feud had not apparently spread to supporters of the loyalist paramiltary groups in mid-Ulster, but appears to have now done so.

The area has been sealed off by police who are conducting a forensic examination of the scene.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
