Two climbers fail to return following blizzard
Hopes are fading for two climbers believed to have been caught in a ferocious blizzard in Tajikistan.
Simon Spencer-Jones, from Inverness-shire, who graduated in medicine at Bristol University this year and Ian Hatcher, a Canadian and another Bristol University graduate, have not been seen since Wednesday, July 13. Their families say that they have all but given up hope of hearing from the two men again.
Both experienced mountaineers, and both aged 26, they are feared to have been caught by a severe blizzard that dumped around three feet of snow in the remote Pamirs region, which borders China and Afghanistan in less than two days.
The two climbers failed to make a rendezvous with a party of mountaineers after the blizzard and despite air and ground searches in the area of the Fedchenko glacier and the 22,800 ft Revolution peak, where they are thought to have been, there has been no sign of them.
Both are former members of the University of Bristol mountaineering club and had been with a party of six other former members of the club.
The two had received a grant from the Everest Mountaineering Foundation, which assists suitably qualified and experienced mountaineers to visit the region.

Heavy snow disrupts UK travel
Heavy snow has affected many parts of the UK, causing travel chaos. Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and parts of south-west England have been blanketed by snow, with reports of up to 20cm falling in some places. A crash on Bodmin moor has stranded hundreds of people on the snow bound road.

Driver And Passengers Escape Bus Fire
A bus driver and two passengers have escaped uninjured after the First Bluebird bus caught fire. The bus was at Stirling University Innovation Park when the fire broke out. It is understood that two fire engines were called to the scene to tackle the blaze. An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

Women Diagnosed With Cancer Following Recall Of Patients
Six out of 30 women recalled following concerns about breast cancer screenings have been diagnosed with the disease. Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust recalled the women after a review of 626 cases between 2011 and 2014. It is understood that all the women were screened by the same radiologist.

CQC Raise Serious Concerns About Essex Hospital Trust
The Chief Inspector of Hospitals has recommended Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust should be placed into special measures. Professor Sir Mike Richards' call follows serious concerns, highlighted during a Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection, regarding the quality of some services for cancer patients at the trust.
