BBC's 'Really Wild Show' set to visit Belfast

The BBC's 'Really Wild Show' is set to come to Belfast this weekend in an event hosted by the Ulster Wildlife Trust (UWT).

The top children's wildlife programme will be at the Bog Meadows Nature Reserve in Belfast on Sunday, August 7, between 11am to 4pm.

The Roadshow, which is touring the UK whilst filming for the next BBC series, will provide a range of fun environmental activities for children of all ages.

So have a go at being a presenter or cameraperson and try your hand at some of the fun activities designed to create breathing space for wildlife in your patch.

'Really Wild Show' presenter Steve Backshall will be there on the day to answer your wildlife questions and you can discover how the show gets those terrific close ups of all manner of animals from sharks to tigers.

The Roadshow will pull in some of the environmental organisations from across NI to the Bog Meadows where they will be putting on fun and educational activities for children.

Some of these groups include: the Ulster Wildlife Trust, who will be organising activities such as mini beast hunts and pond-dipping, and the Mad Professor from the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust will be there. Exploris Aquarium will be bringing along some marine life, the RSPB are bringing their Puffin Van, and Conservation Volunteers NI will be doing various wildlife themed crafts, holding workshops and guided walks that will run throughout the day.

UWT's People and Wildlife Manager Annie O'Kane said: "We are pleased to be able to help the BBC bring the Roadshow to Northern Ireland and hope that it will be a great family day out."

On the day the UWT will have an information point displaying the times of the various activities.

Bryson House are also lined up to highlight the environmental importance of recycling materials and there will be activities featuring recycled items such as old tights, plastic pots and peat free compost.

The RSPB will also have goody bags for the first 50 children, so organisers say that to avoid disappointment, arrive early.
