Second teenager arrested over Walker murder

A second teenager has been arrested in connection with the murder of black A-Level student Anthony Walker.

Anthony, 18, died after being attacked with an axe in Huyton, Merseyside on Friday night.

Police confirmed that a 17-year-old male had been arrested. A second man – an 18-year-old who was arrested on Sunday - has been released on bail.

Anthony had been waiting for a bus with his 17-year-old girlfriend, who is white, and his male cousin, also 17, outside the Huyton Park pub just before 11:30pm on Friday night.

They were subjected to a “torrent of racial abuse” by a man wearing a hooded top outside the pub and decided to leave and go to another bus stop.

However, as they walked through McGoldrick Park, they were followed and attacked by a gang of up to four men. Anthony’s cousin and girlfriend ran to get help, but when they returned to the scene minutes later, Anthony was found lying on the ground. An axe was embedded in his head.

Anthony was taken to hospital, but died early on Saturday morning.
