Five arrests follow customs fuel operations

Five arrests have been made relating to two separate customs fuel operations in the past week.

In the first operation last Wednesday investigators assisted by police uncovered around 18,500 litres of suspected illegal fuel at five different premises in Belfast and North Down.

Three men were subsequently arrested and charged with offences relating to dealing and carrying hydrocarbon oils and released on bail to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court on the April 11.

In a separate operation on Monday customs officers detained a vehicle that was discharging fuel at a filling station in Co Fermanagh.

The box van was carrying a rubbish skip containing a 4,000-litre tank. In addition, 11,700 litres of fuel were also removed from the premises.

Two men arrested in connection with the operation have been released pending further enquiries.
