Teenage boys appear in court charged with attempted murder

Two teenage boys have appeared in court today charged with the attempted murder of a woman in north Belfast last week.

The charges relate to a violent attack on a 36-year-old woman who was also raped during the incident at her Brookvale Avenue home on March 15.

A 15-year-old boy was accused of rape while a 16-year-old was charged with aiding and abetting rape however neither can be named as they are under 17.

A detective constable told Belfast Magistrates Court on Tuesday that when charged, the 15-year-old made no reply to the rape charge and in respect of the alleged attempted murder he said: "I didn't try to kill anybody."

In reply to the burglary charge, he said: "I didn't steal any of this."

The detective said the other defendant made no reply to the charges. "I believe I can connect them to the charges,” he added.

Both were remanded in custody until 19 April however the Magistrate told them they were entitled to apply to the High Court for bail.

The woman was left severely traumatised and required hospital treatment for wounds to her head and body following the incident in question.

Man And Woman Jailed For 'Brutal And Senseless Attack'
The PSNI have welcomed the sentencing of two people at Laganside Crown Court for a range of offences including grievous bodily harm with intent, threats to kill, common assault and possession of an offensive weapon. 26-year-old Dylan Black, from the Lisburn area, was sentenced to seven years in prison. He will serve three years on license.

Woman And Children Held Captive In Aggravated Burglary
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information after a woman and four young children were held captive as their home was ransacked in an aggravated burglary in East Belfast on Saturday, 06 April.
