Queen’s suspend student for ‘lewd’ act

Queen's University has confirmed that it has suspended one student who was caught behaving badly in public.

A new disciplinary group, set up in response to complaints from residents in the Holylands area of south Belfast, made the decision to suspend the student who was caught acting in a “lewd manner” in public.

A further 12 students also appeared before the group for their bawdy behaviour.

The suspension was confirmed on the day that the University released a new report on the views of 16-year-olds in Northern Ireland to community relations and cross-community contact.

The What Now? report found that young people are more optimistic about community relations, despite the increasing polarisation of politics in Northern Ireland in the last 18 months.

The report was written by Dirk Schubotz and Paula Devine of the Institute of Governance, Public Policy and Social Research at Queen's University, as part of the joint ARK project between Queen's University Belfast and University of Ulster.
