PSNI pledge action on car crime
The PSNI is working and will continue to work tirelessly with the community to tackle the scourge of car crime.
This was the message from officers after it emerged on Thursday that local car thieves have begun selling video and DVD copies of joyriders in action.
The video, given to the police by the Lower Falls Community, is currently being investigated by the Auto Crime Team, with a view to prosecution where evidence is available.
Since July 2002, police have arrested 656 people suspected of car crime, resulting in a 28% reduction of such crimes in West Belfast in three years, according to the PSNI.
There has also been a 40% reduction in car crime, including car theft, throughout Greater Belfast. In the last two months in the Lower falls Road area police said that 116 vehicles had been recovered.
The PSNI currently works with Families Bereaved Through Car Crime, the IMPACT multi-partnership programme and the Community Safety Partnership at Belfast City Council in its efforts to reduce car crime in the Greater Belfast area.

Three men have been arrested by police in the greater Belfast area, this morning. A number of firearms were recovered when police stopped a car travelling between Belfast city and Lisburn. The three suspects have been detained at the serious crime suite at Antrim police station.
