Minister launches separate regeneration plans
NIO Minister John Spellar today unveiled two separate plans aimed at regenerating Lisburn city centre and Lurgan.
In the first of a number of engagements, Mr Spellar attended an event in Lisburn to mark the launch of a new strategy aimed at making the city centre more “attractive and distinctive”.
Speaking at the launch, the Minister said: “The strategy represents the kind of proactive approach to city centre management that the Government wishes to encourage.
“It is fully in line with DSD’s urban regeneration policy which aims to create vital and viable centres such as Lisburn. I urge other towns to follow Lisburn’s lead and excellent example.”
A short time later Mr Spellar launched the Lurgan Development Framework document, which aims to enhance the quality of the town “as a place for all to live, work and visit”.
“I very much welcome the launch of the Lurgan Development Framework document which marks an important step towards a better future for the people of Lurgan,” he said.
The Framework Document was commissioned by Craigavon Borough Council and was funded by the Department for Social Development through the EU Peace II Programme.

The Gobbins To Benefit From £13.6m Investment
Mid and East Antrim Council has welcomed the news of new investment funding of almost £13.6 million for the development of The Gobbins. Ambitious plans for The Gobbins include a 60m-high panoramic stepway, upgrades to the clifftop path, the development of a new Welcome Hub, and improved visitor features.
