Catholic school targeted by arsonists
Six cars were burnt out in the grounds of a Catholic school in north Belfast today following an arson attack.
The incident occurred at Our Lady of Mercy girls' school which is situated in the mainly Protestant area of Ballysillan.
Two teenagers were seen running into the schools grounds on Monday were they poured petrol onto the vehicles before smashing the windows and setting them alight.
Condemning the incident, SDLP councillor for North Belfast, Alban Maginness said: "I am sick to death of the constant attacks on schools in the area, be they Catholic or controlled.
"These cynical attempts to disrupt the education of our young people must be stopped immediately."
The school was immediately evacuated after the incident with pupils being sent home for the rest of the day.

New plans to support the most vulnerable in Belfast while growing the economy, regenerating neighbourhoods and achieving climate targets have been published in a refreshed strategic plan for the city. First published in 2017, the Belfast Agenda set out joint vision for the city up to 2035.
