NIGAG membership say 'yes' to Autumn election

The membership of the largest representative organisation for public affairs professionals in Northern Ireland has emphatically backed calls for an autumn Assembly election.

In the first survey of the membership of the Northern Ireland Government Affairs Group (NIGAG), figures also showed that nearly 70% also back the Labour Party organising in Northern Ireland.

Almost 80% of members who responded to the Inaugural NIGAG survey said the election should take place in the autumn, while 93% said devolved structures had been good for Northern Ireland.

Commenting on the figures, NIGAG Chair, Glyn Roberts said: “While the survey results do not represent the official view of the Northern Ireland Government Affairs Group, the individual views of our members on these issues should provide some interesting reading for the Government and local political parties.

“Our intention with this survey is highlight the views of an important section of local civic society and for us to make a constructive observation on current developments.”

The survey took place over the past five weeks and represents the first polling of NIGAG’s growing membership.
