LEAs have major reform role to play: Miliband
School Standards Minister David Miliband today said that Local Education Authorities have a "major role" to play in workforce reform - which the government has highlighted as a key learning.
Speaking at the National Employers Organisation for School Teachers (NEOST) conference in London today David Miliband said he was "impressed" how LEAs have engaged in the workforce reform process.
This month teachers in all schools were relieved by contract of routine administrative tasks such as bulk photocopying and chasing absences.
He said: "LEAs have the ability to make a real impact on the reforms to school workforce by helping spread and share good practice."
Under the National Agreement, signed on 15 January 2003, between the government, employers and school workforce unions, LEAs were given a central role in workforce reform.
Each LEA has appointed a workforce remodelling advisor or 'champion' to assist schools implement radical changes that will ensure teachers are freed to teach, support staff used to their potential, which will improve the amount of individual attention each pupils receives and deserves.

£1bn Towards Free School Meals
£1bn is being unlocked to fund the Department of Education's free school meals commitment. The news, announced by deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, follows an announcement in September that every child in reception, year 1 and year 2 in state-funded schools will receive a free school lunch.
