Lloyds TSB warm of bogus emails

Lloyds TSB has warned that a number of fraudulent emails claiming to originate from the bank have been sent to email addresses.

The bank said that the emails are an attempt to elicit information from customers by asking them to supply information about their account in order to prevent their debit account from being cancelled. The email directs them to a website where they are prompted to enter details of their Visa debit card. It is understood that this website has been shut down with the assistance of police.

Lloyds is the second major bank in the UK to warn of an email scam - earlier this month Barclays was the target of a fake email scam.

A statement from Lloyds TSB said: “A number of fraudulent emails, alleging to be from Lloyds TSB, have been sent to customers and non-customers encouraging people to visit a website where card details are requested.

“Lloyds TSB never sends emails that ask for confidential information or security details to be recorded online. If you get such an email, please delete it immediately without responding.”

Lloyds TSB said anyone who was concerned that they had divulged details should call their helpline on 0845 3000 116.
