PSNI wins two major UK policing awards
The PSNI has won two out of three major UK policing awards at an awards ceremony in England.
The Tilley Award Scheme was set up by the Home Office and the then Reducing Crime Unit, (now the Crime and Policing Group) to encourage and recognise good practice in implementing problem oriented policing.
In just its second year of entering, South Belfast District Command Unit and Foyle DCU in Londonderry, both won Tilley Awards for initiatives to reduce the incidents of serious assaults in the city centres.
South Belfast won in the Partnerships category, while Foyle won in the category of Reducing Crime. There were 86 entries across the three categories.
The awards were presented at the Annual Tilley Awards Conference in Hinckley, Leicestershire which run for three days and began yesterday.
Sergeant Robert Murdie who accepted the award on behalf of South Belfast DCU said: "This very prestigious award recognises that the Police Service of Northern Ireland is at the forefront of problem orientated policing. The problem solving techniques employed throughout the 'Get Home Safe' campaign combined with collaboration with our partners in statutory, private, community and voluntary sectors have ensured the success of the campaign."

Man Wanted In Lithuania Arrested In Magherafelt
The PSNI have arrested a 23-year-old man in Magherafelt wanted in Lithuania to face charges of human trafficking. The man was arrested by officers from the Police Service's local policing team in Magherafelt, with assistance from the International Policing Unit. He is expected appear before extradition court in Belfast later today.
