Roads Service announce £150,000 resurfacing scheme
DRD Roads Service are set to start a £150,000 resurfacing scheme on a section of the A1 northbound in Co Down.
Work will begin between Skeltons Road and Gowdystown Road, on Monday.
A Roads Service spokesperson said: "The scheme will strengthen this road improving the skidding resistance and running surface for the safety and comfort of road users.
"It has been carefully programmed in order to minimise inconvenience to the travelling public. However, there may be some disruption due to the works."
The spokesperson confirmed that for one week, the overtaking lanes in both directions will be closed to facilitate work on the central reserve of the dual carriageway.
The northbound carriageway will then be closed from 22 September until 12 October and a contra-flow system will operate on the southbound carriageway. Traffic entering the A1 from the minor roads will be allowed to turn left only and no right turning, on or off the A1, will be permitted.

River Lagan Flood Protection Works Underway
Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd has announced that flood protection refurbishment work on the River Lagan has got underway. The work costing £900k is being carried out by local building contractor Maurice Flynn and Sons who are replacing the gates at the Hilden and Lambeg river control structures on the River Lagan.

Local roads get record £80m spend
A record £80 million will be spent on structural roads maintenance this year across Northern Ireland. The figure was revealed by Deputy Divisional Roads Manager, Tom McCourt as he presented DRD Roads Service’s autumn report to Newtownabbey Borough Council. Mr McCourt said: "This is a huge increase in investment over previous years.
