Police investigate Soham officer's alibi

A Soham police family liaison officer cleared on charges of indecent assault and possession of child pornography has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

Detective Constable Brian Stevens, 42, was arrested in connection with charges relating to an alibi he proffered in relation to possession of child pornography on a computer.

The second person arrested is 32-year-old Administrative Clerk Louise Austin who works for Cambridgeshire’s Crown Prosecution Service. She has also been arrested in connection with a charge of perverting the course of justice.

Both were yesterday taken for questioning to police stations in the South of Englandand later released on police bail.

Last month DC Stevens was cleared on charges relating to the possession of child pornography.

The case collapsed when a key defence witness admitted making errors in his assessment of the evidence presented against DC Stevens.

It is understood that West Midlands police are continuing to investigate evidence relating to a laptop which DC Stevens said had not been in his possession when the alleged offences occurred.
