Husband and wife still being questioned over Omagh bombing
The man and woman arrested in connection with the Omagh bombing yesterday have been confirmed as husband and wife.
The couple, who were detained in the Jonesborough area of Co Armagh on Tuesday, are still being questioned by police.
Around 200 police officers and Army personnel were involved in the arrest operation.
DUP Police Board member Ian Paisley Jnr said that the decision by the police to make arrests five years after the atrocity demonstrated that with the right resources, determination and evidence the police could eventually make progress.
“Whilst not wishing to prejudice any developments I trust that these latest developments will be a demonstration of a major gear change in this case that will result in justice for the victims and will be of some relief to the relatives," he said.
“The police must be encouraged to pursue tirelessly this and other unsolved cases so as justice is done and seen to be done. The IRA cannot ever be let of the hook for their terrorism.”
To date only one person has been sentenced in connection with the Real IRA bombing which killed 29 people in August 1998. In January 2002, Colm Murphy was jailed for 14 years in connection with charges relating to plotting the bomb attack.
Last month, the Special Criminal Court in Dublin sentenced the alleged leader of the Real IRA Michael McKevitt to 20 years in prison for directing terrorism in the period after the Omagh atrocity.

Fourteen Sentenced In East Belfast UVF Investigation
The PSNI have welcomed the sentencing of thirteen men and one woman in connection with an investigation into suspected criminality linked to the East Belfast UVF by the Paramilitary Crime Task Force. The defendants were sentenced over the five-week period, from 11 January to 16 February, at Belfast Crown Court.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
