Fishermen recovering after day adrift on upturned boat

Two Scottish fishermen are recovering after being airlifted from the upturned hull of their sinking boat after a day adrift in the Irish Sea.

The two men, Bill Hepburn, 48, and John Gowan, 33, from Fife in Scotland, were picked up approximately 13 miles north west of the Isle of Man.

The P&O ferry European Seafarer spotted the two men and reported their position to Coastguard. They were then picked up by a rescue helicopter and taken to hospital on the Isle of Man.

When they were rescued only two feet of the bow section of their 18-foot long fishing boat remained above the water.

A search had been commenced when relatives reported that the men had failed to return to Whithorn in south-western Scotland on Monday night.
