Drink-driver who killed two young women receives four years
A drink-driver who caused a fatal car crash in which two young women died has been handed down a four-year sentence today at Craigavon Crown Court.
Mary Celine Mullin, 55, from Beragh in County Tyrone was found to be three-and-a-half times over the legal limit when her 4x4 crashed into another car while travelling on the wrong side of the M1 motorway between Lurgan and Moira.
Laura Robinson, 21, from Portadown and Leigh Creany, 19, from Lurgan died in the collision on June 5 last year.
Earlier this year Mullin, who was seriously injured in the crash, changed her plea, admitting to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit.
Sentencing Mullin today, Judge Desmond Curran, suggested that she should be allowed to serve her sentence in the hospital wing. Mullin who was weeping in the dock, and had to be supported by a prison officer as the sentence was read out, was also banned from driving for six years.
It is understood that Mullin, who was allegedly found asleep behind the wheel earlier on June 5, 2002 by two police officers, was subsequently allowed to continue on her way.
A complaint has been lodged with the Police Ombudsman regarding the incident and is currently under investigation.
Prior to the head-on crash, Mullin had made a u-turn on the motorway and headed back towards Moira travelling the wrong way in the fast lane of the motorway driving into oncoming rush-hour traffic.

22-Year-Old Man Jailed For Rape At Laganside Crown Court
A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to six years for rape at Laganside Crown Court. Ahmad Alsbaihi was sentenced to six years. He will serve three years in custody and three years on licence. He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register and will be subject to a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) for 10 years.

A man and three boys have been seriously injured in a one vehicle crash in County Fermanagh, according to the PSNI. The collision involving a white Mitsubishi L200 Titan happened on the A32 Mossfield Road, Enniskillen, at 11.15am on Sunday 31 March.

116 Road Deaths Caused By Careless Driving Over The Last Five Years
A total of 116 people have lost their lives due to careless driving over the last five years. The figures, released by the Department of Environment (DOE), also revealed this was almost 40% of the total number of deaths, 298, on NI roads from 2010 to 2014.
