Free Public Wi-Fi For Belfast Buildings
A number of public buildings in Belfast are to become free Wi-Fi hotspots.
The city is just one of 16 cities taking part in the initiative, which will see more than 1,000 public buildings host the free service.
The UK-wide programme is part of the Government's £150m plan to transform the digital capability of cities and make them more attractive places to live, work and visit.
Over the coming months, the scheme will see civic centres, libraries, museums, sporting complexes and transport hubs offer free Wi-Fi.
Some of the buildings have already gone live, with the rest due to be operational by March 2015.
Belfast Lord Mayor Nichola Mallon said: "This is great news for Belfast and is an important element of Belfast City Council's £150m Investment Programme.
"This upgrade to our digital infrastructure will make life easier for locals, visitors, workers and businesses alike, reinforcing our position at the leading edge of technology. Belfast City Council is focused on digital inclusion for all our citizens, transforming our city and building on our reputation as a world class place to visit, work, live and invest."
Digital Economy Minister Ed Vaizey said: "The digital landscape of the UK is undergoing a period of tremendous improvement and is all part of the Government's long term economic plan. For business, visitors and the UK public, accessing wifi in our cities is absolutely vital. I'm delighted this government scheme is on track. These free hotspots will be instrumental in making UK cities even more attractive as places to not only do business, but to visit as well."
Derry will also be involved in the scheme.

Primark Donates £500,000 To Support Businesses Affected By Fire
Retailer Primark is donating £500,000 to Belfast City Council's City Recovery Investment Fund. The fund is being set up after a number of businesses have been severely affected by the fire at the Bank Buildings which happened over three weeks ago. A cordon remains in place and 14 firms have been closed for up to four months.

St Patrick's Day event has support of BCC says councillor
The Chairman of Belfast City Council’s Good Relations Steering Panel has challenged claims that the Council is not supporting St Patrick’s Day in Belfast. It follows a protest outside Belfast City Hall last week by the St Patrick's Carnival Committee who claim the Council isn't funding this year's event at the City Hall.
