Security Alert At Carnagh Orange Hall

A security alert is taking place after an explosion at an Orange Hall in County Armagh.

A device exploded at the front door of Carnagh Orange Hall outside Keady on Friday night.

DUP Newry & Armagh MLA William Irwin said: "This was an inflammatory, sectarian and cowardly attack on a community facility simply because it belongs to Protestants.

"Those behind this attack would like to stir up tensions and drive Protestants from having any part in the community. I know they don't speak for the vast majority in County Armagh who want to live peaceably with their neighbours irrespective of religion.

"Justice can only be achieved if the entire community works with the police and sends out a clear message that this destructive act was not in their name."

Police said they are carrying out inquiries in relation to the incident at the Orange Hall.

Damage was caused to a roller shutter at the Castleblayney Road property in the attack, following reports of a "loud bang".

There have been a total of 15 reported attacks on Orange property so far this year in Northern Ireland and the Republic, according to the Orange Order.
