Public Polled On Polling Places

The way in which NI's elections are run in the future is up for consultation.

The Electoral Office has released a consultation document detailing the future location of polling stations in Northern Ireland.

The proposals set out the arrangements for the location of all the polling stations that will be used for elections and referendums until 2015 including those that will be in place for the Northern Ireland Assembly and district council elections in May next year.

Graham Shields Chief Electoral Officer designate said: "While I am confident that the proposals outlined in the consultation paper will help us provided an improved service, it is important that politicians and electors have their say.

"I would encourage everyone to look at the draft proposals and raise any issues they may have with the office during the consultation period which ends on 23 December," he said today.

The proposals are expected to bring a number of benefits including improved access for anyone with impaired mobility.

For the majority of electors they will have minimal or no impact but the office is particularly keen to hear from individuals who feel they may be in any way disadvantaged.
