City Hall Hosts Royal Visitor

There has been a royal visit to Belfast today - but this time it was Saudi Royal family members who were welcomed to the City Hall.

HRH Prince Turki bin Faisal Al Saud and HRH Prince Faisal are at the start of their two-day visit to NI and met Lord Mayor, Councillor Pat Convery and Chief Executive of Belfast City Council, Peter McNaney.

Shown here is HRH Prince Turki being welcomed to Belfast by the Lord Mayor. The visit recalled Prince Turki's father, King Faisal's earlier trip to the city in November 1919. Prince Turki had expressed his hope to retrace the steps of his late father in Northern Ireland.

The University of Ulster is to confer an honorary doctorate on the Saudi Arabian prince for his services to diplomatic and international relations.

He will receive his Honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) at a special ceremony in Jordanstown later today, 28 September.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Richard Barnett said the University was honouring Prince Turki bin Faisal Al Saud in recognition of his particular efforts to foster better relations between the West and Saudi Arabia.
